Player Spotlight – Bryce Hulett

Grad year – 2017

High School – Lake Wales

FTB – entering his 4th season with FTB

When you have camps of over 300 kids you hope to see things that help players stand out.  Take away pure tools, the intangibles can help players get the extra look.  It can even be the difference between choosing between two players.  When Bryce Hulett showed up to camp he was a skinny, but, a wiry strong Freshman.  He showed well on the mound, during BP, and on defense.  What I circled in my notes, however, was not about his workout.  I circled: “Carries himself like a winner.”  He has a confident but not cocky disposition about him that players at camp seemed to gravitate too.  It was not loud, it was not arrogant, it was more of a calming effect.  He knows who he is and what he can do.  I remember thinking that his future was going to be bright.

Bryce is now 6’2 and starting to fill out his body.  He is in the position of being a solid 2 way player in high school or focusing on pitching and being a potential draft pick down the road.  He has a very solid swing that creates some loft and projects to have doubles power as he keeps filling out.  On the mound he has been up to the mid to upper 80s, from the left side, with two quality off speed pitches.  A low-70s breaking ball with good shape and depth and a mid-70s change up that shows fade.  He has a clean arm stroke that when you see him throw, you know there is a jump in velocity in the near future.

After last summer, it is clear that Bryce “carries himself like a winner” both in the dugout and on the field.  He was on the 17U Mizuno team in East Cobb that he helped win their pool, the 16U Pride team that went to the final 4 of the BCS, the 16U Max Bats team that went to the final 16 or the WWBA, and the PG Underclass Championship team this Fall.

This off season he has gone straight to work.  Changing his workouts and incorporating daily Cressey routines.  The work ethic that he shows is outstanding.  He is not “carrying himself like a winner” anymore….  He has become the definition of a WINNER!
