FTB – Going into his 3rd season with FTB

FTB has a long line of out of state players that have come in and embraced the national implications that the organization can provide.  Guys like Akeel Morris (MLB NY Mets), Jake Junis (Double A KC Royals), Tyler Gonzales (1st Round Toronto Blue Jays), Mitchell Hansen (2nd Round LA Dodgers) are not Floridians that have come in and made FTB there summer travel home.  It is a lot about finding the right fit for each individual.  Players want to be put on a magnified platform that allows them to develop with other elite players, regardless of where they are from.  FTB will continue the trend of identifying these players, regardless of where they come from or there background.  Travis Lane, will be, one of up to a dozen guys that play for Florida Travel Baseball this summer that do reside in Florida.  Unlike many of the others that will join FTB this summer, it will not be Travis’ first “rodeo” travelling to play with this organization.

Travis is 6’2 and a strongly built 215.  He creates great torque with his core and has some lift in his swing that projects him to have well above average power.  He is willing to hit to all fields and has a very mature 2 strike approach.  A recent commit to Boston College, he looks the part of a young Chris Shaw (1st round pick in 2015 out of BC).  Every time he steps in the box, Travis is looking to punish the baseball.  The batter’s box is not the only place he excels, he has the chance to be a legit 2-way prospect.  He has a very clean arm and has already been up to the upper 80’s.  As he develops I could easily see him sitting in the low 90’s range.  His breaking ball is a clear second pitch that he can throw for strikes early in the count.  He takes a very competitive approach and works quickly.

This summer Travis has a chance to help FTB win in multiple ways.  Unlike so many other players, there will not be a honeymoon period to feel things out.  Playing on a national travel team this summer, is not his first “rodeo”.  Travis is ready to ride!
