FTB Spotlight – Adam Torres

High School – Osceola

Grad year – 2017

FTB – He is entering his 4th season with FTB

One of the first questions asked about infield prospects from recruiters or scouts is, can he stay at short stop long term?  Plenty of young players can make the plays within 5 feet on either side of where they set up.  There is extreme value in that.  The players that can show the plus range, throw from different angles, and have high baseball IQ are very rare however.  There is enormous value for those players.  Adam Torres is that rare player.  Adam was on countless championship teams coming into high school and almost exclusively played short stop up until this point.  Regardless of how many other talented infielders he played with, Adam seemed to always rise to the top at the 6 position.  He is without question a rare breed.

Adams raw tools will not “wow” you if you see him in a showcase setting.  He will show soft hands, solid footwork, and solid arm strength but there isn’t that “wow” tool.  Where Adam excels is game time.  If you watch him every game over the course of a tournament you will most likely walk away knowing you found a high level “baseball player”.  He is a guy that does every little thing, sometimes without him knowing he is doing it.  The natural fluidity that he plays with coupled with his ability to slow things down has allowed him to become a field general.  He is simply just always in the right place at the right time.

Offensively he fits perfectly at the top of the lineup.  He consistently barrels the baseball and has some of the best eye hand coordination in the FTB program.  He has the ability to attack earlier in the count in RBI situations and the ability to work counts when leading off innings.  He just always seems to be in the middle of big innings.  Again, putting himself in the right place at the right time.  Adam is starting to add an extra dimension now that he is really putting time in to getting stronger.  His ability to drive the gaps was apparent this Fall and only looks to be better as the Summer approaches.  Just an added bonus for the FTB program

Look for the field general to stay at the 6 position for years to come!  Adam Torres is at the right place at the right time, that time is now!
